VDC Masters 2009

Saturday 8th. November, 2009.

The day started well with 27 pairs in the Mixed Doubles and it was great to see some new faces, as well as the “old reliables”.

The draw placed 6 or 7 pairs in a group to play a Round Robin format, with the top 2 pairs going through from each of the 4 groups.

The Final 8 saw 2 of our Junior girls (Renee and Sarah) in the mix, with Renee adding a 180 to her credits. Of the unsuccessful couples. 4 of our Junior boys were very able support for their partners, and all of them racked up a 180 each! Well done to Nathan Travaille, Neil McCreadie, Sam Ballinger and Kevin Johnson.

The Grand Final was fiercely contended, with Andy Robertson and Karen Breneizeris taking the “honours”, but not without a good fight from the Mother/Son combination of Janine and Michael Cassar. Well Done!

The afternoon saw a lot of the same players step up to the line with different partners in the Ladies and Men’s Doubles. 13 pairs in the Ladies and 21 pairs in the Men’s.

The same format was used, with top 2 pairs going through.

The Ladies played down to the Final 4 as they only had 2 groups. Our two Juniors, Renee and Sarah and their partners, were very unlucky not to make a placing, coming equal third in their group.

The Grand Final saw Carol Forwood and Margaret Coburn battle it out with Janine Cassar and Geraldine Hutchinson, with Carol and Marg taking the day. Excellent work, Ladies!

The Men’s Doubles had a Junior pair come through to the Final 8 ( Stuart Coburn and Sam Ballinger) and then proceed into the Final 4. Well done, guys!

Another Junior pairing, Nathan Travaille and Neil McCreadie, didn’t quite make the “cut” in their group, but definitely made their opponents work hard. It’s great to see the young ones stepping up to line and giving the “big boys” a hard work out. Keep up the good work, guys!!

The Men’s Grand Final saw Eddy Sims and Andy Robertson battle it out with Michael Bajowski and Daniel Bainbridge, with Eddy and Andy taking victory.

There was a total of 39 x 180s thrown for the day –

For the Ladies: Karen Breneizeris (Mixed Doubles), Simone Devereux ( Ladies Prelim Final) and, as mentioned previously, Renee Plucinski.

For the Men: Andy Robertson x 9, Sean Gibbs x 5, Simon Sykes x 3, Craig Kemp, Jamie Brown, Jason Murdoch and Cameron Harris (first VDC 180's congratulations Cam), all had 2 each. One each for Michael Cassar, Scott Krause, Daniel Bainbridge, Steve Kewish, Shane Reeve, Michael Bajowski and Eddy Sims. And of course, Nathan Travaille, Kevin Johnson, Sam Ballinger and Neil McCreadie .

A great day of darts in all.

Sunday 9th. November, 2009.

Singles today and quite a good turn-up. We introduced C Grade for the men last year and there has been quite a lot of interest. Today’s format was the same as for Saturday, with the top players going through to the Final 8.

Ladies first –

B Grade Singles – 12 entries (3 of them Juniors).

Once again the Juniors are taking it to the adults, with Sarah and Renee both in the Final 4.

The Grand Final was Sandy Morrison and Sarah Brown, with Sandy winning the day. Congratulations.

Ladies Masters Singles.

9 entries with one big Round Robin to determine the Final 8.

Carol, Sue, Janine and Marg proceeded to the Final 4: Carol with an average of 21.471, Sue – 17.702, Marg – 19.0 and Janine – 18.503

In the Semi Finals

Carol – 21.695 defeated Sue – 19.972 and Janine – 20.448 defeated Margaret – 17.096

In the Grand Final, Janine 21.649 fire and defeated Carol 20.014.

In the Grand Final, Eddie Szuszkiewicz (affectionately known as Eddie Alphabet), 16.179

defeated Rob Dyer 14.695. Well Done Gentlemen!

B Grade Singles.

14 entries 2 Juniors, Sam and Stuart.

Both Sam and Stuart making it through to the Quarter Finals. Watch these young men guys, they are out to take you on – Big Time!

In the Grand Final, Travis Chisholm defeated Ron Liddy. Ron has had a break from darts for the past 8years or so – looks like a great start to your “comeback” Ron. Congratulations Travis.
